Welcoming the Wilsons

When you think of the Wilsons, you may think of these guys.

But believe me when I say that this Wilson has NOTHING on this Wilson family
(Can you believe I have a picture with them? My reputation is soaring!)
This family has even greater qualities than the famous Wilson family, plus the mod advantage of not being celebrities.
You all know from experience (or former blog posts) that Cat Wilson (fondly known as Catrina) is incomparable. Her skills, talents, beauty, and charm go beyond all measures. For Galentine's Day she made us "friendship candles" and a floral bow tie for my puppy. Recently I asked her, "If you were a bear, what kind of bear would you be?" and she responded, "A polar bear, because they're cute, but they'll kill you." And that, my friends, is Cat Wilson.
If you have ever been on campus during a gloomy day and feel a sudden rush of unexpected joy, you have probably been in a five mile radius of Sam Wilson. Carpenter of fine coffee tables, future doctor, often in a sweater, occasionally caught eating a cupcake for breakfast, Sam's jubilee radiates throughout Starkville.
Kellyn Mahesh (soon-to-be-Wilson) is everything you could ever hope for in a person. (Kellyn, if you are reading this, I'm sorry for how creepy I sound). I knew this upon meeting her, but it was reinforced permanently when she appeared to our Galentine's Day party ("the best day of the year!") in a full Tom Haverford costume, beard included, with beautifully crafted Parks & Recreation themed cupcakes. People, she painted a WAFFLE in icing on one of the cupcakes. A WAFFLE. (Breakfast food and cupcake, all in one. What more could you possibly want!?) She is the only person I know who still looks beautiful with a beard painted on her face. Clearly, she is fit to be a Wilson.
Today the notorious Hank Wilson arrived in Starkville for a visit. Like all other Wilsons, he has traveled throughout the world (Hawaii to Huntsville). Now he is up north serving in the Coast Guard, so his visit to Starkville is a BIG deal. I had heard so much about Hank. Not only is he burly with tattoos and , but he also has incredible knitting skills. Evidently he has some mad surfing skills and  I heard about an incident including a few gallons of milk and a sledge hammer... Needless to say, if Cat, Hank & I were on a boat and only two of us could survive, I would be the first to go.
And this is the Wilson family. Many congratulations to their parents (who are also wonderful).
If you ever have a day in which your self confidence has exceeded proper proportions, just take a look at this family and you'll receive an appropriate reality check.

Art and Life and Life and Art and Cat Wilson

You know how art imitates life and life imitates art? We can probably agree that reality television represents that better than anything else. One example could be the gold iPhone5 I want my parents to buy me. (hi mom, call me!) Once I have that phone, I’m really going to feel like a Kardashian. But is Kourtney also going to feel like me? Yes. And there you have it. Art and life and life and art and me and the Kardashians. While I can’t think of a better way to spend my day then with one of the most wholesome families on TV, I actually can.  Like with this little family right here.
And we spend all kinds of time together. But sometimes we don’t. Like one time, when I got home from all of the cool things I go out and do and Annie got back from Bops, we arrived to Cat eating soup from McAlister’s in the most casual way- as if the skirt she made on a whim hadn’t just won a fashion show. I knew she was making a skirt and I knew she was going to a fashion show but she forgot to communicate that the skirt was being entered into the fashion show. I did get a Snapchat shortly after the runway debut but that is not how you announce a life changing Tuesday night FYI. At the very least Gram it- I mean c’mon.
Anyway. That was December. This is now. What does this all mean? It means that Cat not only won a dress form to take home to dress up and play jokes on Annie with (slash use to sew if you’re into that sort of thing) but her work is prominently displayed on the second floor of the Student Union. Naturally upon finding out where the skirt is displayed, Annie and I ventured through the cold to celebrate and take pictures with out her.

Wow. Look at that draping and shape and other words I’m making up because I don’t know anything about sewing. And the perfect seams. And the hidden pocket- every girls dream.

As soon as we saw Cat's name donning her work, we decided she didn't deserve all the credit. I mean, technically she does, but we're her roommates and we've probably encouraged her at some point so Annie fashioned (pun) our own award. Relax, it only enhances the room.
So sometimes Cat watches Project Runway, and sometimes she lives it. Also I remind myself of the host, Heidi Klum. So it’s like I said- art and life and life and art and me and Heidi Klum.

4 in 313.9 Million

3:41 pm on Monday, February 3, 2014. Cat & I receive the following text:

"Family meeting. Dress is business casual. Something huge happened today."

Having just arrived home from work, I was still wearing yoga pants & a milkshake-stained t-shirt. In a rush, Cat & I put on scarf turbans and long necklaces.

Erin emerged into the room to the song "America the Beautiful." Grasped in her hand was a large envelope, with the return address:
THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON, DC 20502

Though we were ridiculed for sending Christmas cards to Ellen, Jennifer Lawrence & the Obamas, our efforts were clearly not in vain. So even if we all didn't notarize our absentee vote, we still contributed to our nation's capitol. Included in the envelope was a warm greeting remembering our troops and a delightful storybook, complete with a written tour of the White House, depicting its Christmas decorations. Personally sealed by our very own Barack & Michelle.

So... Jennifer? Ellen? Waiting on you.

Sending Christmas cards, forgetting the haters.

America, the Beautiful.
